Yates held a 26-second lead heading into the stage

Britain’s Simon Yates increased his lead at the Vuelta a Espana as Rohan Dennis earned a convincing win in Tuesday’s individual time trial.

Yates finished almost a minute and half behind the Australian, but increased his overall lead to 33 seconds as Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde faded.

Valverde remains second overall, with Steven Kruijswijk climbing to third.

It was a good day for Dutch rider Kruijswijk, who finished fifth, 51 seconds behind Dennis

The US government announced it’s closing the diplomatic mission of the Palestinian Liberation Organization in Washington, DC.

National Security Adviser John Bolton delivered the news during a speech on Monday.

He also threatened to arrest and prosecute judges from the International Criminal Court, should they proceed to prosecute American citizens for alleged war crimes in Afghanistan, or Israeli nationals for crimes in occupied Palestine.

Palestinians have long sought justice at the ICC for the decades-old Israeli occupation.

Could the latest US move reignite tension in the region?

Trump says his response to the hurricane that killed almost 3,000 people was ‘incredibly successful’

news image

With a monster hurricane spinning towards the east coast, President Donald Trump took a moment during a briefing on Tuesday to herald the awful, delayed response to 2017’s Hurricane Maria as an “unsung success,” sparking outrage online.

Calling it “one of the best jobs that’s ever been done with respect to what this is all about,” Trump is ignoring what was, in fact, a dreadful response that cost more lives than what the storm death toll originally claimed.

At the time, the administration committed to a more aggressive response to storms that struck Texas, even as that situation there became more manageable and Puerto Rico desperately needed more assistance.

But perhaps worst of all is the fact that Trump is using words like “tremendous” and “success” to describe a response to a storm that ultimately killed almost 3,000 people, more than the roughly 1,800 killed by Hurricane Katrina and about the same number of people who were killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

As far as Trump’s response is concerned, the most lasting image of his involvement with Hurricane Maria will be the time he visited Puerto Rico and threw rolls of paper towels to survivors

As one could imagine, Trump’s egregiously tone-deaf statement on Tuesday did not go over well on Twitter.

None of this gives us any confidence in how Trump will respond to Hurricane Florence’s landfall, which is projected to hit somewhere along the Carolina coast later this week.

The Witcher showrunner takes Twitter hiatus after Netflix series backlash

news image

Another Hollywood creative is stepping aside from using Twitter after being on the end of heavy blowback.

This time: The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, who’s been getting slammed for a casting in the upcoming fantasy series that hasn’t even happened yet.

The hubbub started when a casting ad surfaced last week for the upcoming drama, based on a Polish book series, specified a woman of color to play the show’s the young female lead role of Ciri. The character is white in the novels and in its various games adaptations. “We are looking for an extraordinary young talent to lead this series,” the casting notice reportedly said. “She should be brave hearted and MUST have something truly special about her.”

The project landed Henry Cavill as another key character, Geralt, to widespread acclaim. But the description of Ciri resulted in blowback among a segment of fandom, with some calling the decision “racist” and noting that Hissrich previously told fans she wouldn’t change a character’s background or gender just because she was “feeling ‘liberal’ that day.”

“It’s time for a Twitter hiatus,” Hissrich wrote. “The love here is amazing, and the hate is enlightening, like a real-life Trial of the Grasses, except I HAVE to read less and write more — or we won’t have a damn finale. Be back soon with more insight and more Roach. Be nice to each other, okay?”

Since Hissrich’s account is still active, it’s unclear if she actually “quit Twitter” as some headlines are proclaiming. Previously, Ruby Rose quit Twitter following harassment after being cast as The CW’s Batwoman, Selma Blair and Michael Rooker quit Twitter in support of fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, and Kelly Marie Tran deleted her Instagram posts after abuse from The Last Jedi trolls.

Ice-T, Jimmy Fallon, Barbara Corcoran and more celebrities remember 9/11 on Twitter

news image

Celebrities are sharing their words and memories about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

17 years ago, in a coordinated terrorist attack, hijackers flew two planes into the World Trade Center and a third into the Pentagon. Passengers on a fourth flight attempted to regain control of a third plane (believed to be headed for the U.S. Capitol) and crashed it into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. That day, nearly 3,000 people died at the three sites and thousands more were injured. In the years since, more than 2,000 people have died from 9/11-related illnesses, sparked by prolonged exposure to toxins at Ground Zero.

On Tuesday, actors, musicians and other stars used their Twitter accounts to remember the tragic events and honor those who died, including rapper and “Law & Order: SVU” star Ice-T, a New Jersey native who says he witnessed the scene from his apartment window.

“It’s 9/11… I actually saw the Towers fall from my apartment window that morning…. Respect to all the victims and people who lost loved ones…” he tweeted Tuesday.

Actor Billy Baldwin honored the “fallen heroes.”

“Taking a break today on Twitter to honor all of the fallen heroes of 9/11,” he wrote. “Thank you FDNY & NYPD… #NewYorksBravest #NewYorksFinest #NeverForget”

“Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran also shared her thoughts: “Everyone remembers 9/11, a day of enormous loss and utter disbelief.  I still meet New Yorkers in the neighborhood who lost a father, mother, son or daughter, and I can’t imagine how they found the courage to move past such a personal loss.”

“I love you, New York City,” Jimmy Fallon wrote.

Charlie Puth shared a photo of his diary entry from the day of the attacks.

“17 years ago today I wrote this in my diary when I was in 4th grade,” he tweeted.

Smokey Robinson tweeted, “Remembering the victims and heroes of the attacks on #September11th.”

Yoko Ono sent a message signed with love, which she attributed to her and late husband, John Lennon.

Borrowing words from his song “Imagine,” she tweeted “Imagine all the people living life in peace.”

“Sex and the City” star-turned-politico Cynthia Nixon shared a lengthy message Tuesday.

“On #September11th, I rushed to Sam’s school to make sure he was safe. Then I went to give blood but was turned away because so many had already donated,” she tweeted. “On this horrific day, we stood up and came together. I honor those we lost and the heroes who risked their lives.”

“Blue Bloods” actress Bridget Moynahan said she’s “starting the morning off with a prayer.”

Actor and comedian John Fugelsang made a point about the attackers themselves (the vast majority of which were Saudi nationals), tweeting, “Seventeen years ago today America was attacked by zero Afghans, zero Iranians and zero Iraqis.”

Pastor-turned-author John Pavlovitz talked about the attacks in a series of tweets.

“As we woke up and went to work and got the kids off to school or got in our cars, September 11th, 2001 was just another day to us – until it wasn’t,” he tweeted. “We learned to cherish life that day; to love people well, to live with gratitude, to see the best in others, to care for one another as our own. May we not need another horrible day to do that again, America.”

Kaya Jones of the Pussycat Dolls shared a video and a message about the attacks.

“#neverforget 911,” she wrote. “We love you and we will never forget. May God rest your souls.”

Actor Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”) simply tweeted a picture of the American flag with the hashtag #Freedom.

Northern Ireland 3-0 Israel: Davis, Dallas and Whyte score in friendly win

news image

Stuart Dallas and Gavin Whyte scored in Northern Ireland’s win over Israel

Substitute Gavin Whyte scored with his first touch in international football as Northern Ireland beat Israel 3-0 in Tuesday’s friendly in Belfast.

Whyte, 22, who joined Oxford United in the summer from Irish League club Crusaders, scored 106 seconds after coming on to make his debut.

Earlier skipper Steven Davis and Stuart Dallas had given Michael O’Neill’s side a 2-0 interval advantage.

Last Saturday NI lost 2-1 to Bosnia-Herzegovina in the new Nations League.

Northern Ireland’s improved finishing

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill had called on his squad to be more clinical in front of goal after squandering a series of openings in that defeat, and they responded in style against an admittedly limited Israeli team ranked 66 places below them in the Fifa standings.

The hosts had found the net only three times in their previous seven outings, failing to score in five of those, but their new expansive style of play paid dividends in securing a confidence-boosting win.

Northern Ireland have now won four and drawn five of their 10 meetings with Israel and triumphed in six of their last seven home friendlies.

Steven Davis gave Northern Ireland the lead in the 13th minute against Israel

Southampton midfielder Davis and Leeds United winger Dallas have both struggled to secure regular first-team football for their clubs this season, the former’s only appearance so far coming in a League Cup game.

Both players shone throughout this game however, Davis firing home a sweetly struck first-time right-foot shot from a Paddy McNair corner which went whistling past goalkeeper Guy Haimou in the 13th minute with the aid of a deflection.

George Saville then provided the pinpoint left-foot cross for the unmarked Dallas to score his third international goal at the back post with a side-footed volley.

In the second half Davis, now with 11 international goals, provided a neat flick to send Saville through on goal, but the Middlesbrough player skewed a left-foot shot wide.

Instant impact by sub Whyte

Whyte’s sensational introduction to international football saw the debutant fire home in the 67th minute after the Israeli goalkeeper had denied fellow substitute Conor Washington, who missed two other chances.

Whyte is seeking to emulate fellow former Crusaders player Dallas in making a major impact in international football, having scored 21 goals in helping the Belfast side win the Irish Premiership title last season.

Gavin Whyte joined Oxford United from Irish Premiership champions Crusaders in July

His outstanding form saw him named Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year by the Northern Ireland Football Writers and the winger has started his career for Oxford United in style with three goals in six appearances.

Whyte was part of the squad which travelled to play Panama and Costa Rica in Central America in the summer but did not play.

He was originally named in the NI Under-21 squad to face Luxembourg in a friendly on Thursday and Spain in a European qualifier on Tuesday, but was called up to the senior squad by O’Neill thanks to his impressive early-season form.

Whyte’s fellow Under-21 player Paul Smyth also scored as a substitute on his senior debut against South Korea in March.

Brazil: Lula renounces candidacy ahead of presidential poll

news image

Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva, the hugely popular but jailed former Brazilian president, has withdrawn his candidacy for the country’s top seat ahead of a general election next month.

Lula, who is barred from running in the October 7 vote due to a corruption conviction, stepped down on Tuesday as the leftist Workers Party (PT) nominee, the party said in a statement.

Fernando Haddad, Lula’s former running mate, was named as the PT’s replacement presidential candidate.

The PT’s announcement was made outside the police headquarters where Lula is imprisoned in the city of Curitiba, in southern Parana state, just hours ahead of a 7pm local time (22:00 GMT) cut-off point for the PT to name a substitute candidate.

Following the announcement, Lula called in a post on twitter for his supporters to back Haddad’s bid for president.

Translation: So I want to ask you, from my heart, to everyone who would vote for me, to vote for the Comrade for President of the Republic.

Tuesday’s deadline was set by Brazil’s top electoral court when it ruled at the beginning of September to ban Lula’s candidacy under the country’s “Clean Slate” law, which forbids people with serious criminal convictions from standing for office within eight years of them being found guilty.

The 72-year-old has appealed to the Supreme Court to have the judgement overturned.

Lula could plausibly still run as a candidate if the Supreme Court reverses the electoral court’s decision, with the latter scheduled to conduct a final review of all nominees and outstanding cases related to the election on September 17 – though analysts suggested to Al Jazeera that this was improbable.

Haddad (C) served as mayor of Sao Paulo for one term, from 2013 to 2017 [File: Andre Penner/AP]

Professor Francisco Panizza, a professor in Latin American and comparative politics at the UK’s London School of Economics, said it was “very unlikely” Lula’s ban would be rescinded.

“The rulings have been extremely consistent … there is a clear line within the judiciary that Lula should not be able to stand,” Panizza told Al Jazeera.

“The court will have such a radical break [if it overturns the ban] with what lower courts have consistently ruled over the last year,” he added.

‘Decisive week’

Born in rural northeastern Brazil in 1945, the charismatic Lula rose through trade union politics and PT circles to serve for two terms as the country’s president from 2003 to 2010. He left office with personal approval ratings approaching 90 percent.

But his image as a working-class hero was rocked in July 2017 when he was  sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison for accepting bribes totalling 3.7m reais (approximately $900,000) from Brazilian construction company OAS while in office. He has consistently protested his innocence, alleging the charges were politically motivated.

In January, an appeals court upheld his conviction and extended the jail term to 12 years.

Despite the controversies, Lula has topped recent opinion surveys gauging presidential candidates’ popularity levels. Polling published last week by research institute Data Poder 360 showed between 33-37 percent of voters intended to vote for Lula, if he were allowed to run.

His enduring appeal is owed, in part, to an economic boom which occurred during his time in office and his “key role” in every election since Brazil’s transition to democracy in 1985 after two decades of military rule, Oliver Stuenkel, a professor of international relations at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), told Al Jazeera.

Lula’s presidency coincided with poverty rates falling by more than 50 percent in Latin America’s most populous country, according to FGV, a Brazilian higher education institution specialising in economics and business.

The question [now] is to what extent he can transfer votes to Haddad,” Stuenkel said.

“This week is really decisive, and it will emerge whether Lula waited just a bit too long [to renounce the candidacy] and whether he should have taken that step earlier in order to allow Haddad to create his own recognition,” he added.

Support for Haddad among voters is currently hovering at about nine percent, according to data published on Monday by polling agency DataFolha.

Prosecutors charged Haddad last week with corruption over donations made to the PT by representatives of a construction conglomerate to allegedly cover debts accrued while he was campaigning for mayor in Sao Paulo in 2012, an election he won.

His candidacy is unlikely to be blocked, as there appears to be insufficient time for a trial to take place before the elections, but the accusation could prompt a backlash from voters weary of multiple corruption scandals in recent years.

Since 2014, more than 150 business leaders, multinational corporations and politicians – including Lula – have been arrested or prosecuted as part a major corruption investigation known as Lava Jato, or Car Wash.

Bolsonaro surges

Haddad, 55, is expected to face a struggle to close the gap in support between himself and Jair Bolsonaro, a far-right frontrunner candidate who is projected to win between 24 and 30 percent of the vote, according to recent polls.

Bolsonaro’s popularity appeared to grow in recent days after he was stabbed while campaigning in the city of Juiz de Fora, in southeastern Minais Gerais state, on Thursday.

“The PT’s narrative is that Lula is the victim, but the problem is that since last Thursday, there’s another victim,” Stuenkel said.

“The hottest story in town is no longer Lula not being allowed to participate but it’s an assassination attempt against the leading candidate [Bolsonaro],” he added.

Brazil’s electoral system requires a candidate to win a majority vote – 50 percent plus one – to secure an outright victory. If no such result is returned in the first round, a second ballot featuring only the top two first round performers will be held two weeks later, on October 28.

Bolsonaro suffered life-threatening wounds to his intestines due to the stabbing [Raysa Campos Leite/Reuters]

It remains unclear whether Bolsonaro, 63, will be able to resume campaigning ahead of the first round having undergone surgery following the attack. The Rio de Janeiro Congressman’s sons, Flavio and Eduardo, are campaigning on his behalf while he recuperates.

Bolsonaro, a member of the Social Liberal Party and a former army captain, has pledged to crack down on corruption and spiralling violent crime rates in Brazil, which is home to more than 210 million people.

He has also attracted widespread criticism for making numerous controversial statements over the years regarding race, gender and sexual orientation, with analysts predicting he will prove too divisive among voters to win the majority-support required to take office.

According to Panizza, there is a “very good” chance Bolsonaro will attract enough support to top the first round, however, and force a second vote.

“The big question is, who will be competing against him [Bolsonaro] in the second round,” Panizza said.

“In short whoever wins the race for second place in the first round is very likely to be the next president of Brazil,” he added.

The country’s last four presidential elections, from 2002 onwards, have all gone to a runoff vote.

More than 20 percent of the electorate are either undecided about who to support or plan not to take part in the vote, according to DataFolha’s poll, despite participation being compulsory by national law.

A 2017 study by  Latinobarometro, a Chile-based polling group, found that only 13 percent of Brazilians are satisfied with democracy.

Sports Twitter is a fun and weird haven from an often bleak news cycle

news image

This is An Ode to…, a weekly column where we share the stuff we’re really into in hopes that you’ll be really into it, too.

Twitter is one of the great enigmas of life on this planet in the year 2018, capable of being a place of wonder, humor, and connections while also being a place of misogyny, trolling, and the source of crippling fear.

Sometimes, Twitter can encompass all of these things in the breadth of just a handful of tweets across 30 seconds.

Sports Twitter is no different. There are hot takes, unfounded insults, and trash talk between fans that gets surprisingly personal incredibly quickly. Oh, and some of the strangest Twitter drama around.

But it’s not all bad! And if you use a few of the tools that Twitter has to offer, you can build yourself a nice little corner of the internet and consume sports in all its glory, creating a nice little collective experience that was the whole point of social media in the first place.

Curating the perfect experience

The key to maximizing your enjoyment: lists. Twitter lists are a great way to filter out all the stupid chatter and harassment, enabling you to mainline a curated stream sports reactions.

Sports remains one of the few DVR-proof forms of entertainment left in our culture, meaning your tweet of amazement at a great catch or a home run won’t result in a string of “SPOILER ALERT” tweets from people time-shifting the show or living in a U.S. time zone or country where it hasn’t yet aired.

Instead, we all experience the roller coaster ride of sports together in real time. On Monday night, NFL rookie Sam Darnold made his highly anticipated first start as quarterback for the New York Jets and, in true Jets fashion, threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown on his very first pass, spawning a collective groan across my NFL Twitter list.

This happens several times a day too, depending on your team. (Side note: Darnold settled down and had himself a good debut as the Jets thrashed the Lions.)

Sports can turn on a dime and that’s why Twitter is such a great supplement for viewing.

Curation won’t always keep out the bullshit; sports seems second only to politics in really setting people off and leading to harassing tweets. Still, lists help make your experience a bit friendlier than Twitter normally is.

Always follow your favorites

Whether on their own or in a list, specific sports-related accounts have always brought me a lot of joy, mixing smart analysis with humor and, most importantly, occasional weirdness.

One of my absolute favorite sports Twitter accounts is the baseball-heavy Cespedes Family BBQ, an account full of weird, wonderful takes and GIFs named for the human highlight reel that is outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

If you like that mix of weird and fun, but prefer college football, there’s also SB Nation’s Spencer Hall, who focuses largely on the sport that makes grown men yell at 18-year-old kids on their TV screens.

And Spencer grasps the absurdity in that — and everything else.

For an account that can cause all kinds of chaos and delight across sports Twitter, there’s ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. He doesn’t bring the weird like these other accounts, but he delivers something just as valuable: big scoops.

Remember that period in the summer of 2017 where it seemed like every day around the same time in the late afternoon, either the Washington Post or the New York Times would drop a huge breaking news story that proceeded to blow up Twitter?

Imagine that, but with basketball news dumps dropped throughout the NBA season. His scoops are lovingly called “Woj bombs” because of the impact they have, thanks to Woj’s experience and credibility built through years and years of reporting. No one can suddenly alter the sports Twitter landscape like Woj.

Sports Twitter can also be incredibly thoughtful. Journalist Jessica Luther has always been a great source for compelling sports commentary on everything from the NCAA’s inept response to accusations of sexual assault against college football players, to the recent debate over the way an umpire at the U.S. Open recently treated Serena Williams.

Luther’s perspective is a much-needed voice in the male-dominated industry of sports journalism and even sports as a whole. Her analysis of and enthusiasm for women’s sports is addictive and will absolutely have you tuning in to the WNBA Finals or the Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Team accounts are the only good branded Twitter accounts

Finally, there are the team accounts themselves. They inform, they interact, they do what brands should do: they promote. But sometimes these accounts interact with each other in a way rarely seen between major brands. For example: there’s trash talk.

Sometimes that trash talk comes back to haunt them, as it did with the L.A. Kings who went after the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the fall of 2017, only to see the Knights advance to the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals.

These accounts also trade in frustrated sarcasm, as the Chicago Cubs account did during a rain-soaked weekend in Washington.

Yes, team tweets can be bad and cloying, too, but it’s no worse than the rest of Twitter. And for the most part, it’s usually much better.

Sports Twitter isn’t perfect, but it certainly offers a space where you can take respite from the flaming tire fire that is the rest of social media, while still enjoying what Twitter should be about: a shared experience with a dash of sports blooper GIFs.

Sia celebrates 8 years of sobriety: ‘You can do it’

news image

Sia has shared a major milestone in her recovery journey.

“Eight years sober today,” the singer, 42, revealed on social media early Tuesday morning. “I love you, keep going. You can do it.”

The private pop star has been open about her battle with substance abuse, which was exacerbated by her rise to fame in 2005.

“When you’re in a different place every day, there’s this kind of madness that sets in. It’s easy to get away with getting high, because everybody’s drinking on the road,” Sia (born Sia Furler) told the New York Times in 2014. “None of my friends thought I was an alcoholic, and neither did I.”

Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images

In 2010, after contemplating suicide, she began a 12-step program, she revealed in a 2013 sit-down with Billboard.

“I got seriously addicted to Vicodin and Oxycodone, and I was always a drinker but I didn’t know I was an alcoholic,” the star — who split from Erik Anders Lang in 2016 — said. “I was really unhappy being an artist and I was getting sicker and sicker.”

Eventually, she decided to relaunch her career as a songwriter. Following a successful stint crafting hooks for Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Rihanna, Sia re-emerged as an artist on David Guetta’s 2011 hit “Titanium.”

And Sia’s demons would eventually inform her Grammy-nominated 2014 comeback single, “Chandelier,” which includes the lyrics: “Help me, I’m holding on for dear life, won’t look down won’t open my eyes / Keep my glass full until morning light, ’cause I’m just holding on for tonight.”

Since her meteoric return, Sia scored her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (“Cheap Thrills”), released a holiday album (2017’s Everyday Is Christmas) and recently formed the supergroup LSD with deejay-producer Diplo and singer Labrinth.

James Woods leads Trump fans in attacking Joe Scarborough over 9/11 tweet

news image

Another day, another partisan scuffle on Twitter, this time involving President Trump, September 11 memories and Trump foe Joe Scarborough of MSNBC.

The words “appalling,” “disgusting,” and “pathetic” were thrown about. Poop emojis made appearances. “Imbecilic hyperbolic embarrassment” was the hyperbolic assessment of one ALL-CAP tweeter.

So, instead of spending Tuesday contemplating the 17th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, the Pentagon and in a field in Shanksville, Pa., some Trump supporters spent the morning attacking Trump foes in truculent tweets.

What set it all off? Scarborough’s tweet hyping his latest column appearing Monday in The Washington Post, which lamented the “avalanche of strategic blunders” set in motion by 9/11 and the “tragic lessons” the nation’s leaders since then have failed to learn. Despite all the death and destruction, Scarborough argued, the terrorists still failed at damaging American democracy.

Scarborough’s promotional tweet and the headline on the accompanying column, referred to the last line of the column: “Trump is harming the dream of America more than any foreign adversary ever could.”

James Woods, one of Hollywood’s most conservative stars and a tireless Trump defender (his Twitter handle is “@RealJamesWood, an imitation of @realDonaldTrump), aimed his ire at Scarborough for allegedly smearing 9/11 victims.

“Please control yourself. This is an appalling insult to the memory of victims and survivors of 9/11,” he wrote, including the story link without naming Scarborough in his tweet.

Scarborough apologized in later tweets, saying he should have “shown more care on the tweet’s wording” so as not to offend Trump supporters.

But it was too late. Trump supporters soon mounted a flurry of attack tweets, including one from Adam Baldwin, star of TNT’s naval drama “The Last Ship” and NBC’s now-defunct spy comedy “Chuck.”

Baldwin echoed Trump’s favorite epithet for the mainstream media: “Enemy of the People,” his tweet read.

Joe Biggs registered his disgust in unmistakable symbols:

By extension, all of the mainstream media were targeted. Gaye Gallops, self-described “patriot, Christian, military brat, animal rights activists, golfer, emergency room doctor,” wrote in all caps, “THIS MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL,” adding, “Scarborough, shame on you! You sicken America!”

A B52 crew chief who goes by the name BrainPower1776 suggested the hashtag #OustMorningJoe, calling for the TV host’s firing.

Others were more direct in their threats.

“My advice to you is find a rock and crawl under it before we the people come for you for we are spread far and wide,” warned Keith Picou.

ALS1963us, whose Twitter bio says she’s a mom, a patriot and foe of the mainstream media, described Scarborough as “brain-damaged.”

Scarborough was not entirely undefended. Bill Bratton, who served two terms as the commissioner of the NYPD, liked what Scarborough had to say in the column.

“On this very meaningful day, Joe Scarborough’s op-ed is so appropriate. Nice work, @JoeNBC,” he tweeted.

Oddly, Trump himself did not engage; the president and first lady Melania Trump flew off to Shanksville early Tuesday to attend a memorial service there for the victims of Flight 93.

Instead, he simply tweeted “Never forget.”
